Micromax has launched the Micromax Canvas Doodle A111 which is more than a smartphone and acts as a creative companion to you. The phone comes with the stylus pen that lets you to sketch your thoughts and ideas. The preloaded Evernote app allows you to capture text, WebPages, screenshots and audio and doodle on them to make notes and pointers. You can also sync and share your data with your friends and colleagues.
Design & Build
The device falls under the phablet category and is priced below 9k bucks. Nevertheless being a budget mobile, it looks sleek and sturdy with rounded edges and a chrome rim running along the sides. The phone gets a premium look with the very narrow display frame.
Display
The mobile has an impressive FWVGA touchscreen of 5.3 inches. The display has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels with 16 million color depth and a pixel density of 184. The touchscreen is capacitive and very responsive and glides buttery smooth. The display clarity is good and provided with light sensors which automatically adjusts to the day light and makes the phone readable in outdoors. Also it has other sensors like Proximity Sensor which saves battery, Accelerometer & Gravity Sensor that helps with display orientation and playing motion sensor games.
Performance
Powered by 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor and 512 MB of RAM the device runs smoothly without any hitches. It also has 4 GB ROM of which the user gets 1.22 GB of internal storage. Yet there is no need to worry as the apps can be moved to external memory. The phone’s memory is expandable upto 32 GB with micro SD card slot. Always it is advisable to use at least 16 GB card for fast performance of the mobile.
Call & Connectivity
It has Dual SIM support which is a big advantage and allows you to keep personal and work life separate. You get a decent enough call quality, though its only dual standby and not dual active mobile. Both the SIM can be configured separately for call, message and net connectivity.
The phone comes with the range of connectivity options including 3G, EDGE, GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB. Only one SIM supports 3G and the other one can connect with 2G (EDGE/GPRS) network. The download speed with 3G and Wi-Fi is good enough for a mobile in this range. But it’s dependable on which network you use and the speed available on the particular area.
It’s also hassle free to copy files from computer to phone and back. The device driver is automatically installed to the computer or laptop it is connected, so non-technical users doesn’t have the headache of installing drivers or file transfer kits.
OS and User Interface
The device runs on the latest Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS that works like a charm. The home screen is fully customizable for your need. Jelly Bean gives rich notifications that let you perform several actions right from the notification bar. With the preloaded Google play app you can browse and download tons of apps and games for use.
Camera & Multimedia
The 8 MP rear camera sports features like autofocus, 4x zoom and can record videos up to 720p HD resolution. The pictures taken in daylight are pretty good. The dual flash is ok to take pictures indoors though it’s not much helpful in outdoor dim lighting. Also a 2 MP front camera is available for making video chats.
The loud speaker is placed at the rear bottom and 3.5mm audio jack at the top of the phone. The speaker volume is good with decent enough audio quality but the earpiece comes with the phone sucks, so music lovers better get some good earphone like Sony or Philips.
The big screen is an advantage for game lovers and any mid level graphics games like Temple Run 2, Subway Surfers, Brave and much more can be played without any lag.
Battery backup
The Li-Polymer 2100 mAh battery provides good backup for moderate usage. But if you are an avid internet surfer/gamer then battery drains out pretty much fast (although it's the case with majority of the phone available in the market in this range). The battery could have been better.
One of the best part about this android mobile is that the charger output is USB. So you can easily connect the USB to your laptop/pc for charging. Charging is also very fast and can be quickly charged from the car charger also.
Conclusion
Overall Micromax Canvas Doodle A111 is an android mobile with huge display, best in class processor and stylus with compromise on average screen resolution, camera and RAM.
Nevertheless it comes with an attractive price tag of Rs. 8763 with free flip cover and stylus that makes it a definite grab for those who are looking for a high end phone with huge display within budget.
